Local cable network banned in Srinagar

Srinagar (PTI): The Government on Saturday night banned a local cable network -- Sen TV -- in view of alleged blatant violations of provisions of the Cable TV Network (Regulation) Act, 1995.

The District Magistrate, Srinagar has stopped transmission of SEN TV for allegedly showing "objectionable material with an objective to incite people to disturb public peace and tranquillity in clear violation of the Cable TV act", an official spokesperson said.

"Despite, repeated advice to the channel to conform to the provision of the Act and adhere to the written undertaking given by it, the channel continued to put out objectionable material aimed at disturbing the public peace and order," he said.

The local cable channels operating under Cable TV Network (Regulation) Act 1995 have to conform to the programme code under Section- Six of the Act.
