I am older, whether wiser you have to tell: Chidambaram

New Delhi (PTI): "I am older today. Whether I am wiser, it is for you to say..."

This was how new Home Minister P Chidambaram responded to a question on what he will do to improve security situation in the country during his second stint in Home Ministry, the first being in 1987 when he was Minister of State in charge of internal security.

"Time will tell," he said when asked to compare his previous stint in the ministry and now and what he proposes to do.

The Minister said he was confident that he will be able to discharge the duties entrusted to him by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

He was asked questions on execution of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru, federal investigation agency and anti-terror law.

"These questions, I will answer when I meet you on Friday again," was the refrain of Chidambaram during his first interaction with media soon after taking charge as the Home Minister.

Asked about New Delhi launching protest with Pakistan over the Mumbai attacks, the Minister said, "I cannot answer any specific question of that kind an hour after assuming office."

He said within a day or two, he will familiarise himself with the issues pending with the ministry.
