Manavbharati school wins 'future cities' competition
New Delhi (PTI): Manavabharati India International School, Panchsheel here has bagged the first prize in the 2008-09 'Future cities India 2020 competition,' developing the best model for "rehabilitation of New Delhi station".
It humbled 50 schools in the NCR region with the ambitious model - the New Delhi station of the future - complete with helipad, a revolving restaurant on top of a 400 metre tall structure, an aquarium and a botanical garden.
Presenting the trophy, Member Engineering Railway Board S K Viz said "I would be happy to implement it."
Indian Railways has already set the ball rolling for converting the station into a 'model world class station.'
The competition, launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Bentley Systems in 2006, aims at promoting and inspiring students to consider careers in infrastructure design and engineering profession.
The competition encourages students to use their design skills, along with Bentley software, to help prepare India's cities for 2020.
The challenge thrown this year was rehabilitation of New Delhi station.
The winning model also had answers for traffic management in and around the station and getting rid of long queues.
Amity International School, Gurgaon was declared the runner's up.
The competition was sponsored by the American Centre, Mc Graw Hill Education and others.
