    Jeep 'used in murder' registered in Prasad's name: UP police

    Lucknow (PTI): In fresh trouble for Union Minister and a senior Congress leader Mahavir Prasad, who has been booked for alleged conspiracy in a murder case in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh policeon Wednesday said the jeep involved in the incident was registered in his name.

    "The jeep which allegedly crushed Ram Prakat in January last year is registered in the name of the Minister and was attached with a school," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal told reporters here.

    Giving details of the case, he said that on January 28 one Ghanshyam, a resident of Ujjarpur village in Gorakhpur district, lodged a complaint that his father Ram Prakat was crushed to death by a jeep (DED-6963).

    "On the basis of the complaint filed by Ghanshyam, a case of accident was registered against the jeep driver Ram Badan and subsequently, the police filed a chargesheet on March 5, last year," the ADG said.

    He said that in the meantime, Ram Prakat's wife Shubhavati Devi moved an application in the Allahabad High Court alleging her husband was killed.

    The ADG said that on the directives of the High Court and subsequent order issued by a lower court, the police lodged a complaint against the Minister, Rajesh Singh, who is pradhan of Ujjarpur village and Gaurishanker Gupta.
