Kalam expects more action from UN to tackle global terror
Lucknow (PTI): Former President APJ Abdul Kalam on Saturday said the United Nations was not doing enough to curb conflicts among nations and pitched for an international council to tackle the threat of global terrorism.
Speaking at a function in a school here he said, "No country should possess veto power. We need a new world order to curb and fight global terrorism. I had suggested that the UN should form a council to fight terrorism."
To make India a superpower, special focus should be on education, health, agriculture, information technology and self-reliance in critical technologies.
The Missile Man said, "the United Nations is not living upto its expectations in curbing conflicts among nations and we need a new charter. India with a billion plus population has every right to be a permanent member."
He asked students at City Montessori School to dream big. Hailing Vikram Sarabhai, Kalam said, "He was a visionary and had the vision of visualising Satellite Launch Vehicles, when there were no satellites."
When asked about international laws, Kalam said, "Every country makes law to suit its primary development. Today, we need laws of space, as most of the orbits in space are occupied by developed nations."
