Bills opposed by Left parties lapse
New Delhi (PTI): Some of the bills on which Left parties had strong reservations have lapsed following dissolution of the Lok Sabha.
A total of eight bills, including two pertaining to land acquisition for projects and rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced persons, and another on strengthening anti-graft law, have lapsed with the dissolution of the 14th Lok Sabha.
These bills, passed by the 14th Lok Sabha, had been pending in the Rajya Sabha for their approval.
The Left parties had reservations on The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, The Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill and The Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill 2009, and these were among the eight Bills that have lapsed with the dissolution of the Lok Sabha.
The other Bills were Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill, The Metro Railways (Amendment) Bill, The National Waterway (Lakhipur-Bhanga Stretch of the Barak River) Bill and the Trade Marks (Amendment) Bill.
National
