Another activist's daughter awaits his release from Doon jail

Mumbai (PTI) The release of rights activist Binayak Sen on bail has brought a ray of hope to 27-year-old Shikha Rahi, who's father Prashant Rahi is at present lodged in Dehradun district jail, after he was arrested by Uttarakand police two years ago for allegedly being the Zonal commander of CPI (Maoist).

Mr. Prashant, an activist and well-known face in the intellectual circles of Dehradun, was arrested in December 2007 and was chargesheeted for "waging war" against the state.

His daughter Ms. Shikha, an assistant director with a production house in Mumbai, however claims that there has been no incident in Uttarakand to show there has been an attempt to wage war against the state.

"Binayak Sen, who faced similar charges was released on bail by the Supreme Court recently. This gives me hope and our legal team is now planning to approach the apex court seeking bail for my father," Ms. Shikha said adding she wants her father to come out clean.

As Ms. Shikha awaits justice for her father, the trial in the case has already begun in a court there, with the prosecution examining several officials from the Intelligence Bureau.
