NCW for rehabilitation scheme for rape victims
New Delhi (PTI) The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday rooted for a rehabilitation scheme for rape victims which would help them get back their life on track.
The commission, in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday, demanded that the scheme should be brought out as soon as possible.
"We have met the Prime Minister on this scheme and also sent him a detailed letter yesterday on why rehabilitation of rape victims was necessary," NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas said.
The draft scheme envisages that there shall be established at every district, a Board called the District criminal injuries relief and rehabilitation board. The board shall have exclusive jurisdiction to deal with applications received under the scheme in that district.
The victim can get financial relief and rehabilitation by applying to the district board in accordance with the provisions of the scheme.
Apart from this, there would also be a national board which would lay down procedures for the various district boards.
Ms. Vyas said that the commission had received complaints of nearly 300 rape cases till June this year.
