N.Korea says over 170 U.S. spy flights flown in September
Seoul, Sept 30. (AP): North Korea alleged today that U.S. spy planes flew more than 170 flights aimed at the communist nation in September.
"The U.S. imperialists intensified aerial espionage on strategic military objects" in North Korea, by flying more than 10 reconnaissance planes on September 16 when the international talk for ending the North's nuclear ambitions were being held in Beijing, the North's official Korean Central News Agency said, citing anonymous military sources.
The talks ended with a breakthrough accord in which North Korea promised to abandon all of its nuclear programs in exchange for economic aid and security assurance.
The United States also reaffirmed its commitment not to attack the communist North in the agreement.
North Korea regularly publishes a tally of alleged U.S. aerial espionage. The U.S. military doesn't comment, although it acknowledges monitoring North Korean military activity.
"The reality shows that the U.S. imperialists are impelling us to strengthen our self-reliant war deterrent force," KCNA said.
Some 32,500 U.S. troops are based in the South which remain technically at war with the North.
