20 dead, nine missing in China colliery flood

Beijing, March 11 (PTI): At least 20 miners were killed and nine others missing after a colliery in northeast Liaoning Province was flooded, the local government official said today.

The flooding was reported in a pit of the Fushun Mining Group, a state-owned company in Fushun.

He said 29 miners were working in the mine when it was flooded last night.

Search and rescue work is still going on and the pit has been closed for a safety overhaul, Xinhua news agency reported.
