Heat wave kills 29 in Bangladesh
Dhaka, June 2 (Xinhua): The heat wave, which is sweeping through Bangladesh over the past few days and becomes worst during the last two days, killed at least 29 people, the Bengali daily Ittefaq reported on Friday.
The 29 people who died of heat strokes during the last two days were from different parts of the country, and many more were hospitalized with strokes and diarroheal diseases, the daily said.
Weather officer Sanaul Huq told Xinhua on Friday the heat wave might continue at least two more days as there is no possibility of rain throughout the country.
He said the western and southwestern parts of Bangladesh were badly raged as northwestern Dinajpur was the hottest place with temperature of 41 degree Celsius on Thursday.
In the capital of Dhaka, 37.1 degree Celsius temperature was recorded on Thursday, but the Dhaka sky was overcast on Friday.
Load shedding of electric supply accentuated the situation as the country is facing a 1,500 to 2,000 MW shortage of power supply daily.
Even in Dhaka, many areas are put under four to five hours load shedding everyday. The situation in the districts and countryside were even worse.
