Vietnam to invest $84.5 mn. on HIV/AIDS prevention
HANOI, (Xinhua): Vietnam is investing 1,352 billion Vietnamese dong ($84.5 million dollars) in HIV/AIDS prevention between 2007 and 2010, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Friday.
The money will be used mainly to prevent infections among people in high-risk group, and the spread of the disease from them to community, and intensify training for health staff and propagandists.
By late August, Vietnam reported a total of 128,367 HIV-carriers, of whom 25,219 are AIDS patients, including nearly 14, 072 fatalities, according to the country's Health Ministry.
But, the actual figure of HIV infection cases in Vietnam may reach 280,000, including 110,000 AIDS patients and 90,000 deaths.
