Vietnam floods claim 14 lives, 4 missing

Hanoi (AP): The death toll from floods in central Vietnam rose to 14 after more bodies were recovered over the past two days, disaster officials said on Friday.

Floods triggered by heavy rains also left four others missing, they said.

In the central province of Thua Thien Hue where three people drowned, floodwaters have largely receded, allowing most of the 17,000 evacuees to return to their homes, said provincial disaster official Nguyen Luong Minh.

The government will distribute 1,000 tons of rice to help people affected by the floods, the Department of Floods and Storms Control said.

Earlier this month, floods and landslides triggered by Typhoon Lekima killed at least 89 people and left 10 others missing across provinces in central and northern Vietnam.
