China imposes anti-dumping duties on MEK
Beijing (PTI): China on Wednesday imposed anti-dumping duties on Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), widely used in making paints, dyes and lubricants, coming from Japan, Taiwan and Singapore, state media reported.
Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in its final ruling these exports constitute dumping which have inflicted losses on local manufacturers and slapped the duties that would be in effect for five years.
The duties take effect from November 22, replacing the interim penalties imposed on Aug. 9 this year following the anti-dumping investigation launched on November 22, 2006.
The rates range from 9.6 per cent to 66.45 per cent, depending on the producer, the ministry said, Xinhua news agency reported.
China's MEK consumption is expected to reach 240,000 tons next year, with more than half imported, according to the website of the China Engineering Consulting Association.
