Gaza power plant cuts output to conserve fuel

GAZA CITY (AP): A Gaza fuel official says Israel is delivering fuel to power the Gaza Strip's only power plant, after plant officials turned off turbines to conserve fuel.

The official, Kaanan Obeid from the Gaza Energy Authority, had said earlier Sunday that one of the plant's four turbines was shut down at 1 a.m. Another Gaza official said two others were switched off later in the day.

Israel is Gaza's only source of fuel.

The plant supplies one-third of Gaza's electricity. Israel supplies most of the rest.
