Kathmandu (PTI): A minor earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale rocked Nepal on Thursday, though no damage was reported.

The epicentre of the quake that hit the Himalayan nation today at 1 am was in western Nepal's Chiyandanda located in Baglung district, according to the Department of Mines and Geology, National Seismological Centre.

Earthquakes are frequent and deadly along the fringes of the Tibetan Plateau, which was raised when India collided into Eurasia, starting some 50 million years ago.

The magnitude of 7.8 quake that shook China's Sichuan province last week and killed over 41,000 people was linked to a shift of the Tibetan plateau to the north and east, experts said.
