China unveils 4 high speed trains for Beijing Olympics

Beijing (PTI): China has unveiled four high-speed trains, the first of its kind made only for sightseeing during the Beijing Olympics.

The Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains rolled out of the production line recently, the manufacturer said.

The train with a maximum speed of 160 km an hour with seating capacity for 466 passengers would only serve the line between urban Beijing and the Badaling section of the Great Wall.

The trains were unveiled at the yard of the Beijing based China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Corporation limited, official Xinhua news agency said.

They would take 80 minutes to reach the Badaling, nearly half the time compared with the old models, it said.

The rail cars have large viewing areas and rotating seats to provide an "ideal vantage point" for sightseers and are also handicap-friendly, it said.
