EU nations urge Russia to comply with ceasefire

Avignon (France) (AP): European Union foreign ministers appealed to Moscow to follow through on commitments to withdraw its forces from Georgia under a ceasefire plan.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy will lead an EU diplomatic mission to the Kremlin on Monday to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev about the crisis.

The EU expects Russia to withdraw its forces to their positions before the August 7 start of its five-day war with Georgia, and Sarkozy's visit was aimed at ensuring Russian implementation of the cease-fire plan signed three weeks ago, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said.
