ADB annual meeting to be held in Bali, Indonesia
Jakarta (Xinhua): The 42nd annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be held in Indonesia's resort island of Bali from May 2 to 5, 2009, local media Wednesday quoted an official from the ADB as saying.
"The meeting will discuss three main issues including the global economic crisis, climate change and regional economic integration," Antara news agency quoted head of ADB's media and communications division Omana Nair as saying.
The meeting will be opened by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and ADB President Haruhiko Kuroda, Nair said in Bali on Tuesday.
Some 3,000 delegates consisting of finance and economic ministers, central bank governors, senior government officials, representatives of multilateral financial institutions, investors, business people, representatives of non-government organizations, academicians, and members of the media, will attend the three-day- meeting.
"ADB President Kuroda will deliver a keynote speech. Up to this moment, there has been no confirmation on the arrival of heads of state or government of other countries," Nair said.
The participants of the session will talk about follow up actions of Strategy 2020 which was discussed in the 41st ADB meeting in Madrid, Spain, last year.
Besides the 67 ADB member countries including the Unites States, the European Union and Australia will also send their representatives to the summit.
The ADB is a regional development bank established in 1966 to promote economic and social development in Asian and Pacific countries through loans and technical assistance.
It is a multilateral development financial institution owned by 67 members (as of 2nd February 2007), including 48 from the region and 19 from other parts of the globe. ADB's vision is a region free of poverty. Its mission is to help its developing member countries reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their people.
