Pak condoles death of UN employees in Peshawar blast

Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan on Wednesday condoled the death of several employees of UN agencies, including two foreigners, in a deadly suicide car bomb attack on a hotel in Peshawar.

In a message to UN chief Ban-ki-Moon, President Asif Ali Zardari conveyed condolences on the death of UNHCR official Aleksander Vorkapic and UNICEF official Perseveranda So in the "despicable act of terrorism" at Pearl Continental hotel.

"We wholeheartedly condemn this act of terrorism in which the two international civil servants have sacrificed their lives while serving the noble cause of assisting the dislocated persons in Pakistan," he said.

"Such cowardly acts of terrorism will never weaken our resolve to fight against this scourge. We will continue to work with the international community and the UN to root out this menace from Pakistan and the region," he said.

Three Pakistanis working for UNFPA were also among the 17 people killed in the attack. Several foreigners, including staff members of UN agencies, were among the more than 50 people injured.
