Bhopal, Feb. 14 (PTI): A total of 150 workers of Sangh Parivar groups were arrested in Madhya Pradesh today for allegedly resorting to violence during protests against Valentine's Day though no untoward incident was reported from across the state.
A 'rath' (decorated vehicle) prepared by the protesters, mainly activists of the Dharam Sena, for "forcibly marrying couples found celebrating Valentine's Day" was seized in Jabalpur, Additional Superintendent of Police Manohar Verma told PTI.
A total of 114 activists, including those of the Dharam Sena and Shiv Sena who had fanned out here in search of couples celebrating the day, were arrested and sent to jail, Verma said.
In Indore, 30 Shiv Sena workers were arrested and sent to the Central jail when they organised a rally after performing religious rituals at Bharat Mata temple, Deputy Inspector General of Police Madhu Kumar Babu said.
Six persons were arrested late last night as a precautionary measure after Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena issued warning to couples not to celebrate Valentine's Day, Babu said.
No untoward incident was reported in the state and police were deployed at all sensitive places, including restaurants, markets and fast food outlets, to prevent any violence.
A sharp vigil was also maintained on people indulging in moral policing by resorting to violence, police said.
