    Architect Laurie Baker dies

Thiruvananthapuram, April 1 (PTI): Eminent architect Laurie Baker, a pioneer of low-cost housing in the country, died in his residence here today, his family said.

The British-born architect was 90 and had been keeping indifferent health for quite some time. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth.

Inspired by Gandhian ideals, Baker devoted himself to popularising low-cost housing in different parts of the country.

In the last few decades, he made Thiruvananthapuram his home.

Baker was conferred Indian citizenship a couple of decades ago and had been honoured with the Padmashree.

He served on the board of several housing projects of the Centre and the state.
