TN Govt. denies reports of SP's dismissal
Chennai, April. 15 (PTI): The Tamil Nadu Government tonight denied that it had dismissed suspended Superintendent of police, K Premkumar.
An official press release tonight said that 'reports appearing in a section of the media to this effect were incorrect.'
Earlier, reports emanating from police headquarters here said that the department had made a recommendation to the government for his dismissal.
The former SP of Kancheepuram, Premkumar arrested Kanchi Seer, Jayendra Saraswathi in connection with the murder of temple official Sankararaman in 2004.
Premkumar had already been suspended following an enquiry report into the allegation that he met Ravi Subramaniam, an accused turned approver in the Sankararaman case and asked him to escape from prison.
The findings of an RDO enquiry had charged him with ill treating an ex-serviceman Nallakaman at Madurai when he was a Sub-Inspector in 1982. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had recently upheld six-months imprisonment awarded to him by a lower court on charges of torturing an ex-serviceman during his tenure as SI at Vadipatti village in Madurai.
