Over one lakh pilgrims takes holy dip on Adi Amavasya
Rameswaram, Aug. 12 (PTI): Over one lakh pilgrims from all over the country had a holy dip and offered pooja for their forefathers on the auspicious 'Adi Amavasya' today.
The presiding deity of the temple Sri Ramanthaswamy and Lord Rama were taken in a procession to the 'Holi Agni Theertham', on the auspicious new moon day in the holy month of Adi.
The pilgrims, after performing their pithru pooja (prayers for forefathers) at the sea, took bath in 22 other holy theertham (wells) in the temple.
Police had made elaborate security arrangements for regulating the pilgrims and also provide security in around the temple.
Special poojas were performed to deities in the morning as part of the ongoing Adi Festival in the temple.
