Newborn dragged out by stray dog in hospital
Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17 (PTI): A stray dog bit and dragged out a newborn from her mother, three hours after delivery in a government hospital in Keonjhar district of Orissa today.
Official sources said Baby Das (32) gave birth to a girl at Anandpur sub-divisional hospital this morning and was lying outside the labour room when the incident occurred.
The newborn was dragged out by the dog as her mother, a resident of Haridapal village, was unable to raise an alarm. A nurse saw it and started shouting, the souces said.
Though the dog left the girl and ran away, the child was critically injured on her head, stomach and hand, her father Kailash Chandra Das, who had gone out to fetch medicines and other articles during the incident, told reporters.
Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) P N Sethi said it happened after the woman and the child had been discharged from the hospital.
He said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Chandrabhanu Sethi had ordered a probe into the incident while the girl was being given medical treatment at the hospital.
