TN: SFI seeks probe into 'police lathicharge'
Chennai (PTI): Students' Federation of India activists staged a demonstration at the University of Madras on Wednesday, to press their demands, including a government probe into the "police lathicharge" on students of Presidency College here on October 15.
State General Secretary G Selva told PTI that student-police clashes were becoming routine in the city and police should hold discussions with the students' representatives in this regard to put an end to this trend.
Three policemen, including an Assistant Commissioner, were injured in stone pelting allegedly by students of Dr Ambedkar Law College, here last week.
The SFI also flayed the AIADMK for "politicising the death" of a student of Presidency College.
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, in a press meet here on Wednesday, held the DMK government "responsible for the student Ganesh's untimely death," and asked it to compensate for his death.
She had also condemned the October 15 episode, where students were "lathicharged," and demanded action against those police personnel.
In the Ganesh case, police said he had committed suicide over a family dispute.
About 200 SFI members participated in the demonstration. They later submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, S Ramachandran.
