Take immediate steps to fill all vacant posts in PCS

Puducherry (PTI): The MDMK's local unit has urged Chief Minister N Rangasasmy to take immediate steps to fill all vacant posts of Puducherry Civil Service Offices (PCS) in the administration.

Unit convenor and former Education Minister N Manimaran said that more than 20 posts of Director of government departments here were vacant and were being looked after under additional charge by available officials. This had put a heavy on the officials owning the posts and was also causing delay in disposal of files.

He said there were 117 officials under the PCS cadre in the past. But now only 93 officials were available. While 29 of them were recruited by the UPSC and posted here as PCS officers, the other 64 officers were from among locally available staff. They were working on adhoc basis.

He said the assurance given by the Chief minister that government would adopt 75:25 ratio to ensure posting of PCS officers from among local cadres and those sponsored by UPSC to share posts was yet to see the light of day.

He urged the Chief Minister to intervene and address the problem by persuading the Centre to give its nod to fill vacancies by the local government without delay.

If there was further inaction on the part of the administration, his party would launch a state wide agitation to procure justice to the locals, he said.
