Karunanidhi launches pulse polio campaign in TN
Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Sunday launched the two-round 'pulse polio' campaign, aimed at covering about 70 lakh children in the state.
He administered polio drops to a few babies at his Gopalapuram residence here, formally inaugurating the campaign.
The Health department has established 40,399 immunisation booths at government hospitals, primary health centres, health sub-centres, noon meal centres, schools and some other important places.
Transit booths had also been set up at railway stations, bus stands, temples and tourist spots to cover children in the age group of 0-5 years, an official release said here.
About two lakh personnel, including volunteers from NGOs, were involved in the mass campaign.
The second round of the campaign would be held on February 10.
