    J&K considering hike in passenger fare: minister

    Jammu (PTI): The state government is considering a fare hike in passenger transport services keeping in view the demand of transporters and rise in cost escalation, a state minister has said.

    The matter is under consideration of the high power committee constituted for the purpose, Minister for Transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said, at a high level meeting to review the over all functioning of state transport and allied departments here on Tuesday evening.

    Apart from the issue of fare hike, the minister said, measures were under way to provide licenses, registration certificates and other required documents to transporters under single window system by regional transport authorities.

    On incidents of rash driving, the minister said, speed governors would be fixed in the passenger vehicles plying in Srinagar and Jammu cities on experimental basis.

    Also, the government would add 50 more vehicles in the fleet of state motor garages, to the present 390 to cope up the demands of newly created districts, Yaseen said.

    He further stressed on intensifying the process for providing smart cards to state transporters in place of licenses and registration certificates, which would include all codal formalities.
