Kolkata (PTI): A fire broke out at the Titagarh power plant of power utility CESC in North 24 Parganas district early Thursday morning, leading to powercuts in the metropolis.

"The fire was detected at the conveyor belts carrying coal to the units at 4.45 am. Both the conveyor belts were damaged, but the generation units were unaffected," CESC ED (Generation) Sanjay Chakraborty said.

"The fire was brought under control within an hour by six fire tenders and our efforts," he said.
