Congress walks out of West Bengal Assembly
Kolkata (PTI): The Congress on Monday walked out of the West Bengal Assembly protesting Speaker H A Halim's refusal to admit an adjournment motion on the state government's failure to utilise fully the central funds allocated for various projects.
As the Speaker did not even allow Congress members Ajoy Dey and Asit Mal, who moved the motion, to read it out on the ground that the matter had already been discussed in the House, Congress members were immediately on their toes protesting against the Speaker's decision and walked out of the House.
Congress Legislature Party leader Manas Bhuniya later told reporters in the Assembly lobby that the Speaker's role was 'partisan' and alleged the Left Front government had failed to utilise fully the funds allocated for different rural development projects.
"Opposition have every right to raise this in the House, but the Speaker disallowed us from reading out the motion," Bhuniya said.
The Congress members, however, returned to the House after sometime.
