Kozhikode (PTI): Six crew members of a cargo ship escaped after the vessel bound for the Lakshadweep sank off the Beypore port late on Friday night, coast guard sources said today.

The escaped sailors reached safely at the Tanur beach in Malappuram district this morning.

The vessel, MSV Sandheri, carrying cement had set off from Beypore yesterday. It developed some technical problem in mid-sea late last night, the sources said.

The crew members had boarded the lifeboat and were heading for shore by the time the coast guards team traced the sinking vessel, the sources said.
