May day observed in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh
Chandigarh (PTI): Demonstrations and rallies by different trade unions and employees associations at several places in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Thursday marked the May day.
Those who lost their lives for the rights of workers were remembered on the occasion by trade union and workers' associations leaders, reports here said.
The demonstrators expressed concern over the plight of labours and demanded enactment of a law by the Centre to "save them from clutches" of industrial houses.
They also demanded revision of wages of labours and sought more employment ooportunities.
Among others, employees of Punjab State electricity Board (PSEB), Indian National Trade Union Congress, Chandigarh-Punjab Union of journalists, Punjab roadways and various technical unions state demonstrations on the day.
While Private transport workers union chief Sukhwant Singh led the protest in Moga, Punjab Chandigarh Journalist Union president Vinod Kohli stage protest among with other activists at the city centre here.
