26 sentenced to life imprisonment in Bengal
Krishnagar/Barrackpore (WB) (PTI): A local court on Thursday sentenced 19 people to life term in jail for killing two workers of a political party at Tehatta Kulgachhi village in Nadia district in 1995.
Public Prosecutor Shyamal Biswas said one person was acquitted and 19 others were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Amanullaha Seikh and Babulal Seikh on July 11, 1995.
Babulal was shot dead on the spot and Amanullaha was hacked to death. 20 people were arrested in connection with the twin murder, the police said.
Babulal and Amanullaha were reportedly killed to avenge the murder of a person in 1994 by them.
In another judgment by a fast track court at Barrackpore in North 24-Parganas district near Kolkata, seven persons were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a housewife and her minor child.
The husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of Kakali Poddar were sentenced to life term in jail for killing her at Kediapara in Kanchrapara in August, 2006.
