    CPI(M) rebuffs DMK remarks

Chennai (PTI): The CPI(M) on Thursday hit out at Tamil Nadu Minister Arcot Veeraswamy for his comments that the left parties would "vanish" after the Lok Sabha polls, saying such a thing will never happen.

Joining issue with the senior DMK leader, Tamil Nadu CPI(M) Secretary N Varadarajan said his party could not do anything if the DMK decided to go along with a 'sinking ship' -- Congress and sink with it.

"Due to its wrong economic policies, the UPA and its allies had lost the elections in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand. If the DMK continues its ties with the Congress in the coming Parliament elections, it will face the same fate" he said in a statement here on Thursday.

Even after the CPI(M) declared that it will not have any truck with parties having ties with the Congress and the BJP, the DMK has made such a statement "only to justify its continued relationship with the Congress", he added.
