Special session of Andhra Assembly on Sept 15

Hyderabad (PTI): A special one-day session of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be convened on September 15 to take up no-confidence motion against Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, moved separately by the main opposition TDP and Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

The ongoing monsoon session is scheduled to conclude on September 6.

The Speaker has decided to convene a special session to discuss the no-trust motion, official sources said.

The TDP's no-confidence motion was to protest against the suspension of its senior legislator K Balaram Krishnamurthy from the Assembly for a period of six months for allegedly making derogatory remarks against the Speaker.

The main opposition party had submitted the notice for no-confidence motion on August 27 while TRS moved a separate notice a day latter.

The TRS accused the Speaker of failing to act on its petition seeking disqualification of ten of its rebel legislators under the provisions of the Anti-defection Act.

The TRS rebels had defied the party's directive and voted in favour of an independent candidate during the Rajya Sabha elections last year.

"We want the debate and voting on no-confidence motion to be completed in a day. We are serious about it," the Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah said.

He said the Speaker was 'more concerned' about the issue as baseless allegations were made against him though he had been conducting the proceedings with utmost impartiality.
