    Karnataka state awards announced

    Bangalore (PTI): ISRO scientists Mayilsamy Annadurai and S K Shiva Kumar, Infosys official T V Mohandas Pai and senior journalist Imran Qureshi were among the winners of Karnataka state awards announced on Thursday.

    The State gives away these annual awards for significant contributions in various fields on the State formation day on November 1. It carries Rs one lakh in cash, a plaque, a 20 gm gold medal and a shawl. This year, as many as 89 personalities were selected for the award.

    Besides Annadurai, who is the Chandrayaan-1 unmanned moon mission Project Director, and Shiva Kumar, Director of ISRO Satellite Telemetry, Tracking and Command (ISTRAC) network here, the third winner in the science category was Prof. P Balaram, the Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

    Pai (information technology) is the head of human resources at Infosys, the NASDAQ-listed software major, while Qureshi (journalism) is Editor, South, TV Today, which runs news channels Aaj Tak and Headlines Today. The other winner in the IT bracket was Ananth R Koppar, Chairman and CEO, KTwo Technology Solutions.

    The awards were announced by Home Minister V S Acharya.

    S P Balasubramaniam won the award in the films category, while J J Shobha (Heptathlon) and Shikha Tandon (Swimming) were the award winners in the sports category.

    Director of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) D Nagaraj made the grade in medical field.
