Bhopal (IANS): The Election Commission Saturday said the final polling percentage in assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh was 69.31 and not 60 percent as given out earlier.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer J.S. Mathur said this while announcing re-polling in 29 centres across 14 assembly constituencies in the state Sunday.

In 2003, Madhya Pradesh saw 67.41 percent polling. This year's election took place Thursday to pick a new 230-seat house.

Mathur said the highest polling was recorded (84.02 percent) in Waraseoni assembly segment in Balaghat. The lowest turnout was in Jobat (48.82 percent).

Sunday's re-poll has been ordered on the basis of reports provided by district administrations to the Election Commission. The reasons range from faulty electronic voting machines, violence at polling booths and errors by election staff.
