MP Polls: Cong mum on Chief Ministerial candidate
Bhopal (PTI): With the Madhya Pradesh assembly election results slated to be announced on December 8, there is a lot of speculation about who the Chief Minister would be in case the opposition Congress manages to romp home.
The ruling BJP has already made it clear that if the party wins the polls, the present Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan would continue.
Congress leaders have been reiterating that their party does not have a tradition of naming a Chief Ministerial candidate before the elections.
They also maintain that the Chief Minister, in case, the party comes to power, would be chosen only by the newly-elected legislators.
According to them, the Congress is a democratic party which does not believe in imposing Chief Ministers from above and wants it to be a decision of the MLAs.
There are several senior leaders in the state Congress and any one of them could be elected to the top job.
Till now, no leader has openly stated that he would want to be the Chief Minister, although a few months back at a meeting held in Chhindwara, it was said that Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath would be the Chief Minister if the Congress comes to power in the state.
