Trucks to go off roads from midnight in Rajasthan
Jaipur (PTI): Demanding a cut in diesel price and parity in value added tax, trucks in Rajasthan will go off the roads from Sunday midnight as part of the nation-wide agitation.
Over 3 lakh trucks will not ply on the roads and around 30 lakh employees in the business will take part in the agitation beginning on Monday, Ramprakash Choudhary, a spokesman of the Rajasthan Truck Operators' Union, said in Jaipur.
The booking at the transport office in the State has already been stopped since Saturday, he said.
Backing a national call by the All India Motor Transport Congress, the State unit will also press its 10-point demand-charter, Choudhary said.
Rajasthan has been charging 28 per cent VAT on diesel used in trucks for the last five years as agsinst the national average of 4 per cent, he said adding the chrges were irrational.
The Union also demanded for reducing value tax on buying old trucks which Choudhary said was equivalent to the one paid on the purchase of a new vehicle.
"The State transport should also erase slip system against over loading of trucks, and allow only the desired weight in each trip to contain Inspector raj and Corruption," he said.
