Telangana major poll plank for TDP, TRS

New Delhi (PTI): Despite differences within the front on the Telangana issue, the TDP and TRS have decided to make the raging statehood demand as their main election plank to "expose" ruling-Congress' stand on the matter.

While the two parties and CPI favour the creation of separate Telangana state, CPI(M), the other major partner in the Opposition 'Grand Alliance', is opposed to the idea.

The TDP, which was opposed to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, had recently announced its support to the formation of Telangana, saying it did not want to hurt the sentiments of the people.

"CPI(M) has certain reservations on creation of smaller states in India. They are not opposed only to creation of Telangana, but bifurcation of any state in the country," TRS chief K Chandrasekar Rao said.

"For TRS, Telangana will be the main poll plank," he told PTI in a brief interaction.

Echoing his views, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who was strongly opposed to the idea, said his party supported the creation of Telangana after taking into account the sentiments of the people of the region.

"We were opposed to Telangana region in the last elections. But, now we have taken a stand. We will stick to it," he told PTI.
