RSS chief takes on NCERT over history book

Bhopal (PTI): RSS Chief K.S. Sudarshan on Saturday criticised the NCERT for giving a wide space to the Mughal rulers and confining Chhatrapati Shivaji's valour to few lines in a history book.

"(An) NCERT history book of Class VII, has given wide space to the Mughal rulers and has confined Shivaji to just eight lines," he said in a function here.

The NCERT has not given adequate space to the Great Maratha leader Shivaji who fought the Mughals, he added. "This has happened as the HRD Minister Arjun Singh was at the helm of affairs in the NCERT. Singh had also been the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh," he said.

"What inspiration will our young generation draw from this book? Will such history help in nation-building?" he asked.

Mr. Sudarshan said that the people running the NCERT do not have knowledge of "religion and culture".
