Group clashes in Mysore
Mysore (PTI): Clashes, which broke out over eve-teasing in a suburb here, resulted in arson, pelting of stones and damage to property, police said here on Thursday.
According to the police, two youth belonging to a community allegedly teased a girl from another community on Wednesday at Kyathamarenahalli area. They were detained after a complaint was filed, but released later in the night.
Soon after, some members of a group went on rampage, pelting stones at houses, including that of former Mysore Mayor Srikantaiah, setting fire to some vehicles and damaging a temple.
Police resorted to a lathicharge and later burst teargas shells. Prohibitory orders have been promulgated in the area, police said, and added some persons have been taken into custody in this connection.
Commissioner Parashivamurthy and Deputy Commissioner of Police P Manivannan visited the area. A peace meeting was also held in Mannivanan's office.
The Commissioner said normalcy has been restored in the area.
Meanwhile, BJP members staged demonstrations in protest against the violence.
