Ooty flower show from May 22

Udhagamandalam (TN) (PTI): Tourists and flower lovers will have a treat at the summer resort here after the Government Botanical Gardens decided to extend the annual flower show by one more day.

The flower show, a major crowd puller among tourists during summer season, has been extended to a three-day event this year for the first time.

The 113th edition would be held from May 22 to May 24, Horticulture Joint Secretary Chandramohan told reporters here.

There were complaints from tourists in the past that they were not able to enjoy the two-day show, since major portion of the first day was devoted to the inaugural function and arrival of VIPs and the concluding day for prize distribution, he said.

Considering this, the department decided to go for a three-day show, Chandramohan said.

Stating that the rose show would be held at Centenary Park here on May 20, he said the vegetable show would be held for two days from May 25 in Nehru Park in nearby Kothagiri.

The annual fruits show would be held at the Sim's Park in Coonoor on May 20 and 31, Chandramohan said.
