Chiranjeevi elected leader of PR Legislature Party
Hyderabad (PTI): Telugu megastar Konidela Chiranjeevi was formally elected as the leader of the Praja Rajyam Legislature Party on Monday.
Praja Rajyam Party, floated nine months ago by the 53-year-old actor, won 18 seats in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections and emerged as the third largest group in the 294-member House.
The newly-elected MLAs of PRP met at party headquarters here on Monday for two hours and elected Chiranjeevi as their leader.
Chiranjeevi told the MLAs that they would play the role of a constructive opposition in the Assembly and would not hesitate in taking up issues of public concern.
"Our criticism of the government and its programmes will be constructive. At the same time, we are also open to criticism or praise," he told his colleagues.
The PRP chief elicited feedback from the victorious candidates on the electoral battle in various constituencies.
The party will undertake a detailed evaluation of its electoral performance later, sources said.
Though the Political Affairs Committee of the PRP was also scheduled to meet on Monday, it was put off to a later date.
