Madhya Pradesh bids to revive caravan tourism

Bhopal (PTI): In a bid to revive caravan tourism in the state, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (MPSTDC) will develop three tourists attraction circuits.

"We are developing three circuits, Shivpuri-Orchha-Khajuraho, Bhopal-Tawa -Pachmarhi and Indore- Mandu-Maheshwar," MPSTDC Chief General Manager Bal Mukund Namdeo told PTI.

He said that all facilities, including camping, will be developed by January for the tourists visiting these sites on caravans.

Areas for make-shift tents, water and other facilities will come up at these places to promote caravan tourism.

The number of the foreign tourists, especially from Netherlands, visiting places of tourists' attractions in Madhya Pradesh on caravans has come down in the last decade possibly for the want of facilities, MPSTDC sources said.

Though the famous tourist attraction Khajuraho, known for magnificent temples, has camping site, the number of foreign tourists visiting on caravans this place has tumbled as well, they said.

The foreign tourists bring the caravans to India by ships, they added.
