Jan Morcha merges with Congress
Lucknow (PTI): In a boost to the Congress ahead of by-polls to 13 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, Jan Morcha, a political outfit founded by former Prime Minister V.P. Singh, on Saturday merged with the party.
The merger took place at a function here attended by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, UP Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and other senior party leaders.
Ajeya Singh, the Jan Morcha president and son of late V P Singh, former UP minister Kailash Nath Singh, other party leaders and activists joined the Congress.
Welcoming them into the party fold, Ms. Joshi said their decision to join the Congress en masse would strengthen it in Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Singh had merged his party with Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party last year.
He, however, revived the Jan Morcha after he was denied ticket for Fatehpur Lok Sabha seat by Paswan following his pact with Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party in UP.
Mr. Ajeya, contested the Lok Sabha election from Fatehpur, a constituency once represented by his father, but was humbled.
Former vice-chairman of Uttar Pradesh Bridge Corporation and BSP leader Neeraj Bora also joined the Congress along with his supporters.
