Bangalore: Sixty activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), who were planning to protest against the installation of the statue of Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar in Bangalore on Sunday, were taken into preventive custody early in the morning.

The activists were arrested at Malleswaram, according to the city police.

As many as 400 activists of various Kannada organisations were earlier arrested as a precautionary measure in the light of threats of protests. Over 4,000 security personnel have been deployed at the venue of the programme
