Tata Motors affected by protest at HM plant

Kolkata, April 15 (PTI): Already reeling under the protests against its small car plant in Singur, Tata Motors has now become an unintended victim of the trouble at West Bengal's another auto plant, Hindustan Motors.

Tata Motors has filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court, seeking its intervention to enable it to regain possession of its "valuable dies and components" which are lying at Hindustan Motor's Uttarpara plant that makes the country's oldest car, the Ambassador.

HM's plant, a regular supplier of auto components to Tata Motors' Jamshedpur plant, was shut down by the management last week after weeks of agitation by a section of workers that repeatedly turned violent.

In its petition, Tata Motors sought a direction to appoint a special officer of the court to supervise the removal of dies and components from the premises of the HM plant and also to grant police protection and assistance for this purpose.

Apart from HM's management, the petition also made the two workers union of the troubled plant parties in the matter.

Tata Motors claimed that spare parts and other finished components needed for its Jamshedpur plant are not being allowed to be taken out of the Uttarpara plant of Hindustan Motors by striking workers and this was hampering production at its Jamshedpur plant.
