    IBM to collaborate with IIIT-Bangalore in research programmes

    Chennai, Aug. 20 (PTI): Software major IBM has entered into an agreement with International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Bangalore for collaborating in research initiatives.

    IBM's Centre for Advanced Studies(CAS), Bangalore will work with the institution in the exchange of technical talks, guidance for research students and scholars and for solving research problems of common interest,a company statement said.

    Under this programme, fellowships will be offered to PhD students from the institute who will work with the developers and researchers at IBM India Software Lab,it said today.

    The programme also would allow selected IIIT-Bangalore faculty to work as 'IBM CAS Visiting Scientist' and 'IBM CAS Academic Fellow'.

    "With the partnership, IBM and idustry developers will get a fresh approach towards solving their problems and institute faculty will get the opportunity to tackle challenges in the commercial world," said Amol Mahamuni, Programme Director, University Relations, IBM India.

    All intellectual property generated by joint efforts will be shared by the software company and the institute.

    According to S Sadagopan, Director, IIIT-Bangalore, the agreement was a significant milestone in the institute's research programmes.

    "It will help further strengthen our exposure and active participation in cutting-edge research, relevant to the industry," he said.

    "We also look forward to partner with IBM in improving the academic and research environment in the country," he added.
